Spacey condemns web death rumours

Kevin Spacey

As we monitor the world of celebrity from our high-tech control room here on Orange's satellite HQ, we often find ourselves confused by what we see – especially when rumours about our favourite stars start to spread through the interwebs like wildfire.

Anyway, superstar thesp Kevin Spacey has had enough. Following the sad demise of Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett, he has ordered online pranksters to stop spreading fake stories about celebrities’ deaths, after his old pal Jeff Goldblum was the victim of the latest hoax.

After publication on a spoof news site, a story started to circulate saying that the former face of Holsten Pils had felt the cold touch of the Grim Reaper in New Zealand, having apparently fallen 60ft to his death on the set of his latest film. At one stage, “jeff goldblum dead” was in Google’s Top 5 trending searches.

Jeff’s representatives soon quashed the tittle-tattle, branding the rumours “completely untrue”. And Kevin was quick to add his two cents’ worth: “Jeff Goldblum is alive and well. I just talked to his manager. Stop these stupid rumours!” he posted on his Twitter page, possibly slamming his fist down on the arm of his chair as he did so.

J-Gold isn’t the only star to have had his death prematurely reported recently. Pop princess Britney Spears had her own Twitter account hacked recently, with the star’s shocked followers being told “Britney has passed today. It is a sad day for everyone. More news to come.”

George Clooney’s management was bombarded with concerned calls after rumours of his demise started to circulate, while Natalie Portman and Harrison Ford have also been the subject of morbid gossip. The Indiana Jones star apparently went down with his yacht at sea.

We’re still waiting to hear back from Elvis Presley’s people. We’ll let you know once we know for sure one way or the other.
